Patrick Macdougall – Chairman

Mr. Macdougall has over 45 years experience in financial services and general management. He was the Group Executive Director of Standard Chartered Plc, Chairman and Chief Executive of West Merchant Bank; and Chief Executive of Amex Bank. He has also spent 8 years in Hong Kong and Greater China as Executive Director of Jardine Matheson Group, in charge of the Financial Services portfolio as well as operations in the US, Australia and the Middle East. Mr. Macdougall graduated from University of Oxford and is qualified as both a barrister and a chartered accountant. He is a British citizen and resides in the UK.


Jacky Chau - Vice Chairman

Mr. Chau has over 30 years experience in financial services in Greater China, specializing in listed securities dealings, corporate finance, and investment advisory. He held senior management positions with a number of regional institutions such as Chintung Group, Chung Nam Securities and Commodities, Chelac Investment Company Limited, and C.K. Grandfield (Holdings) Limited. Mr. Chau graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce.


Duncan Chui – Chief Executive Officer


Mr. Chui is an experienced investor and business manager for direct investment and private equity ventures in Asia. He is the founder and CEO of China Private Equity Investment Holdings Limited (“CPE”) and the President of Fortel Technology Holdings Limited, an anchor investment of CPE founded by Mr. Chui which operates as an one-stop infrastructure for internet content and media providers to distribute electronic content in China.

Mr. Chui began his career as a management consultant with Andersen Consulting and A.T. Kearney, advising financial institutions, regulators, utilities companies, telecommunications operators, and manufacturing outfits across Asia to develop strategic business plans, China market entry strategies, IT strategies, to redesign core business processes, and to implement key information systems. Mr. Chui has become one of the earliest venture capital fund managers in Asia when he joined Transpac Capital Group in the late 1990s to focus almost exclusively on software, IT services and the internet sector. Mr. Chui was responsible for managing Transpac’s IT portfolio in Hong Kong and China and has since developed a strong network with venture capital funds, technical managers, and business entrepreneurs in the region. Computer & Technologies (HKSE 0046), IIN International (HKSE 8128) and Alibaba.com (HKSE 1688) are among Mr. Chui’s successful investment track record as a venture capitalist.

His approach and persistence of remaining hands-on and involved in all of his portfolio companies was so successful that he has invited by Hong Kong listed Sino Katalytics Investment Corporation (“SKIC”)(HKSE 2324) to turn around a loss making equity and technology portfolio and grew the company to four times its asset value in 3 years. Currently he is also the Chairman of SKIC. Mr. Chui received a Bachelor of Science degree (Applied and Engineering Physics) and a Master of Engineering degree (Operations Research and Industrial Engineering) from Cornell University in 1991 and 1992 respectively.


Ernest Wong – Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Wong has extensive experience in venture capital, corporate finance, business development, legal, IT, financial and general management. He brings with him a successful track record in venture investment by investing in Computer & Technologies (HKSE 0046) with a ten fold capital return with in three years. He was also one of the key team members in executing a US$2.2 billion financial restructuring and asset injection of Dongshen Water Supply Project in Guangdong Investment Ltd (HKSE 0270), which earned several acclaiming awards, including the "Best Restructuring Deal in Asia in 2000". Moreover, he carried out a major spin-off in ASTRI with IRR more than 150%.

Before joining CPE in 2008, Mr. Wong was the Chief Financial Officer for ASTRI and held management responsibilities for ASTRI's overall financial, legal, IT, business development and corporate finance functions, with annual budget more than HK$350M. Before joining ASTRI in 2002, Mr. Wong was vice president for Vertex Management, focusing in venture investment in communications, IT and electronics sectors. Previously, he was the Head of Department of Guangdong Investment Ltd as well as the Executive Director of its listed subsidiary. He had also held various management positions in Transpac Capital and Andersen Consulting (now called Accenture).

Mr. Wong earned his B.B.A. degree from the University of Hong Kong, received his MSc in investment management from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and MSc in Electronic Engineering from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Mr. Wong is a fellow member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK; and is an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He is also a charter-holder of Chartered Financial Analyst, US and a member of Hong Kong Security Institute, HK.


John Croft – Non-Executive Director

Mr Croft is an experienced entrepreneur and business leader with a strong track record in new business start ups. He was formerly non-executive Chairman of e-pay Asia Limited (ASX: EPY), the largest e-payments company in SE Asia; Previous roles include Chairman & CEO of Streets Online Limited, an online retailer where he led the trade sale to Kingfisher PLC in 2000. Earlier in his career he held senior Director level positions in Racal Electronics and NCR Corporation. Mr. Croft is a British citizen and resides in the UK.


Hanson Cheah – Non-Executive Director 

Mr. Hanson Cheah has over 18 years of technology management and venture capital investment experience in Asia. Mr.Cheah was a co-founder of AsiaTech Ventures in Hong Kong managing over USD 180million in technology investments since 1998, working closely with corporate investors such as Sun Microsystems, NTT DoCoMo, and Fujitsu. Prior to founding AsiaTech, Mr. Cheah was the Indonesian Country Manager and Regional Portfolio Manager for private equity firm Transpac Capital and was the Chairman of Venture Capital Association in Hong Kong in 2004-2005. Mr. Cheah holds a BS and an MS in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Certificate in Management Science from Stanford University.
